What is Normal?

David Vraza MA

Some thoughts from Archibald Hart’s “The Sexual Man” compiled by David Vraza MA.

What is normal? What is dysfunctional? What is sinful? Am I a pervert? Many men report difficulty controlling their sex drive. Their God-given sexuality is not a source of delight, but a source of shame and frustration, destroying marriages. A major factor in many marital breakups is a failure to work out a mutually satisfying sexual relationship. Dr. Hart studied “good men” – married fathers who love God and attend church regularly, living an ordinary life of employment and family life. There are several populations struggling with their porn use, but the ordinary “good man” offers a glimpse into the common struggles of male sexuality. There is a mixture of legitimate guilt (I feel conviction for doing something wrong) and false guilt (I feel guilty because of

incorrect ideas about human sexuality). How does religion influence our sexuality?
